Turbo Design Preferences: Journal Bearings vs. Ball

Aug 16, 2016· As far as journal vs ball bearing, I would always choose BB if I could, but thats not always needed, and of course most times Im not willing to spend the money. Ball bearing works awesome if you need fast response with a larger turbo, such as a low pressure street turbo. It also helps a lot with transient response.

Bearings 101: What They Are, How They Fail, and Why They

Bearing designs can be usefully divided into two high-level egories based on this addition. Sleeve / Journal Bearing vs Roller Bearing. Ball/Roller Bearing: In these designs, a rolling element is placed between two sleeves: an inner sleeve, contacting the journal, and an outer-sleeve contacting the bore. A “ball” is the most common form

Is a ball bearing turbo worth the extra $ over a journal

No. if you get a holset, then it''ll even spool faster than its garret counterpart. Also rebuild kits are under $100 for them. vs $900 for a new center cartridge. 1. level 1. [deleted] · 8y. The simplest way to describe the benefits of a ball bearing turbo is two words: transient response.

ball bearing to roller bearing conversion | The H.A.M.B.

Feb 08, 2014· from Southern Orange County, Ca. the 55-57 ball bearing hubs can be replaced with the early-mid 60s full size car roller hubs. I don''t think you''ll find a "normal" roller bearing to replace the B52 inner bearing on the old car hubs. At least I couldn''t find any when I was looking for them for my trucks.

Journal Bearing VS Ball Bearing Turbos || cost vs

Mar 24, 2011· My PRO reasons to using a Journal vs Ball bearing are as follows: 1) Actual spool difference between two IDENTICAL turbos only difference being one is ball bearing and one is journal bearing is ONLY about 1-300RPM faster spool. Yup that is it, do not believe the hype that it will spool significantly faster.

Journal vs. Ball Bearing Turbo | Supra Forums

Sep 21, 2011· I prefer hydrodynamic journal bearings over most ball bearing units, personally, due to their serviceability. That is my own personal opinion. When a ball bearing turbo fails, aside from typical seal damage, it tends to cause more damage than a typical journal bearing turbo to other components.

Oil Restrictor On A Garrrett Gt3582r - Forced Induction

Jan 11, 2008· Garrett has two types of bearing systems; traditional journal bearing; and ball bearing. The journal bearing system in a turbo functions very similarly to the rod or crank bearings in an engine. These bearings require enough oil pressure to keep the components separated by a hydrodynamic film.

Journal Bearings and Their Lubriion

High-speed journal bearings are always lubried with oil rather than a grease. Oil is supplied to the bearing by either a pressurized oil pump system, an oil ring or collar or a wick. Grooves in the bearing shell are used to distribute the oil throughout the bearings’ surfaces.

How Fluid Film Bearings Work - Waukesha Bearings

The Role of Bearings. The primary functions of bearings are to control the rotor position, balance forces on the system, and provide damping. Journal bearings support radial loads (perpendicular to the axis of rotation). Thrust bearings support axial loads (along the axis of rotation).. The materials and design of thrust and journal fluid film bearings are selected to optimize the …
